A Met Gala representative reports the record-breaking $15 million raised for charity in just one night. This is a jump from last years’ $13 million figure. It proves that the Met Gala is much more than the glitz and glamour on the red carpet.

The 2019 Met Gala took place on Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s the museum’s main source of annual funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions and capital improvements.

This year, the stars came ready with their overly-exaggerated outfits. They didn’t disappoint in their display of creativity, which also resulted in the record-breaking amount of money raised. Lady Gaga was one among many who stood out. In opening the night, she strutted in with a giant pink Brandon Maxwell dress, but that wasn’t all.

Earlier, we reported her several wardrobe changes, and you would be amazed and awed by the theatrical diva. In her final look, Lady Gaga stripped before she took the glory walk in her 10-inches heel. Basically, she showed up and stopped the show before everyone else tagged along.

Others adhered to the theme dubbed “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, while others like Kanye West just showed up. The theme was in honour of writer Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, “Notes on Camp”. This essay is about society broadening its attitudes toward sexuality, particularly homosexuality.

Gaga’s look at the 2019 Met Gala was iconic, and just maybe she wanted to set a standard as one of the chairs of the evening. Also, Harry Styles, Serena Williams and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour were among those who co-chaired the event.

The first Met Gala held in 1948. However, it wasn’t until former Vogue editor Diana Vreeland became a consultant that it became glamorous in 1973. Its first theme was “The World of Balenciaga.”
