2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Reinvents Flat-Six Engine

Porsche’s two new variants of the 718 Cayman and 718 boxter Spyder reintroduced the flat-six engine in favour of turbocharged flat-fours. This was after it stopped infusing the engine in the previous 718 generation midengine sports cars.

 

The luxury company recently unveiled the new 2020 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Spyder with the flat-six engine. The only difference between these two new variations is the look. They Cayman GT4 looks more coupe-like, while the Spyder is a drop-top aficionado.

 

 

The cars have 4.0 litres flat-six engine. Thereby they produce 414 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. It also has a redline of 8,000 rpm.

 

The two cars come with a standard six-speed manual transmission. This can automatically rev the engine for smoother downshifts. However, the owner can deactivate this function can be deactivated if they do not care for it.

 

The GT4 will reach 188 miles per hour and the Spyder will max out its speed at 187 miles per hour. The two cars have the Porsche Active Suspension Management adaptive damper setup.

 

The cars also have the ability to manually adjust the toe, camber, ride height and sway bar settings. They have standard iron brake rotors that owners can upgrade to Porsche’s carbon-ceramic brakes for extra stopping power.

 

GT4 and Spyder have a standard mechanical limited-slip differential with torque vectoring. They have tweaked the anti-braking system and stability controls with special attention to performance. In summary, the two cars are incredibly fast.

 

Reports have it that the cars will hit the market in 2020. The 718 Spyder will cost $97,550 and the 718 Cayman GT4 will sell at $100,450.
