An anti-aging skincare regimen takes time, intentional efforts, and even money but with consistency, the results will wow you. While we cannot stop the clock from ticking, the aging process can be slowed down to make you appear younger than you are.
Read below to learn skin-care routines that can slow down aging.
Wash with a cream cleanser
Cleansing is a very important part of everyday beauty regimen as it removes residue makeup, build-up of dirt, sweat, and dust from the face. As you age, your skin, especially the facial skin begins to lose its nutrients and natural oil resulting in skin that looks dry and even, slack. To remedy this, use a cream cleanser regularly to help replenish the nutrients on your face.
Also, take care to avoid cleansers with sodium lauryl sulfate as it’s very harsh and can cause wrinkles to the skin.
Exfoliate weekly
As you age, your skin takes time to replenish itself. Dead skin cells which are replaced quickly in a younger person tend to hand around more in older persons. Thus, the skin begins to appear dull, uneven and may even being to spot cracks. This is why you must exfoliate regularly to removed dead skin cells. However, take care not to scrub too hard when exfoliating so as not to cause the skin to break. Also, avoid harsh exfoliants like sugar-based scrubs or cleansers with beads as it makes the skin susceptible to sagging.

Apply serums
The best anti-aging serum contains derivatives known as retinoids which help to increase the collagen in the skin. They also act as antioxidants, helping to eradicated the impact of oxidative stress from the environment. Find an anti-aging serum that works for you and apply. However, while applying, pat onto the skin instead of rubbing it on.
Moisturise
As you age, your face tends to produce less sebum or facial oil. While this means the end of acne issues, it may signify another problem; dry skin. To avoid this, make sure to keep your skin moisturized using products that contain water-binding humectants glycerine and hyaluronic acid. Also don’t forget to moisturize under your jawline, your neck, and your decolletage.
Apply sunscreen
One major misconception about sunscreens is that they are meant to protect your skin only from UV rays. In reality, not only do they protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays but also from any potential environmental damage. So make sure you use one each time you step out.
Eat healthily
The saying “you’re what you eat” couldn’t be more apt. The food you eat (or don’t eat) directly reflects on how you look and impacts your aging rate positively or negatively. That being said, they’re some specific foods that a steady intake of them has been proven to slow down the aging process. Include foods like berries, potatoes, papaya, nuts, avocado, fresh vegetables, and other healthy foods to your diet to maintain fresh and healthy skin. Also, make sure to stay hydrated by drinking the required amount of water per day.
