Actress Adunni Ade has continued to speak up about how she was banned from Nollywood English for three years.
The actress in an Instagram live chat on June 28th, 2021 shared that she was blacklisted just when her career was beginning to take off.
“I was knocked off English part of Nollywood for a few years. And it was at the time when my career should have been up there. Getting recognized and getting awards that were recognized all over Africa. And being part of projects that had grossed millions in the cinemas. Then from nowhere, I was being pushed out of the scene. That hurts. It was for about three-plus years. I am still not there but I am working my way back up. I found another strategy to get back up there,” Ade shared in a clip of the Instagram LIVE interview.
This is not the first time Ade will be speaking about the harsh conditions that have been meted on her in Nigeria’s English-speaking film industry.
The actress had first spoken up about it during a chat with Chude Jideonwo on the WithChude show in April 2021.

Adunni Ade shared that she noticed a decline in her career after her AMVCA nomination in 2017.
“I feel, I might be wrong, that I was outcasted out of the English [industry] I won’t say 100 percent,” Adunni Ade shared. “But I have had jobs taken away from me, colleagues who have now become big names yank my name off. Or make lies to producers and EPs on reasons why they should not give me a job.
“Deals, endorsements have been yanked off my feet because they don’t know me or they don’t like me. Or I am not their person because they would rather put someone that they are cool with who would give them a cut than me who truly deserves it”
Only recently, The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) announced that it has barred its members from working with actresses Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing.
The association took the stand against the women at a press conference held at its Lagos secretariat following their involvement in actor Baba Ijesha’s r*pe case.
Several industry practitioners including Debo Macaroni, Mary Njoku, Funsho Adeolu, and others have spoken up to condemn TAMPAN’s move.
