Blue Origin, again has a swing at a rival space company, it says SpaceX is too complicated for Nasa’s Lunar Lander program.

This after the GAO (Government Accountability Office) denied Blue Origin’s appeal to NASA for the program.

Blue Origin says SpaceX’s Lunar landing craft is “immensely complex and high risk”. The company posted an infographic on its website to support its claims.

The infographics further say that “There are an unprecedented number of technologies, developments, and operations that have never been done before for Starship to land on the moon.”

SpaceX starship will have to refuel in orbit in order to reach the moon. Blue Origin considers this as unsafe and dangerous.

Earlier, the Jeff Bezos space company appealed to NASA. This is for picking Elon Musk’s SpaceX as the sole contractor for the program.

This decision by the GAO maintains SpaceX as the solar contractor to NASA’s human landing program. The agency went with SpaceX because of low funding from congress.

 

The GAO verdict clearly stated that NASA “reserved the right to make multiple awards, a single award, or no award at all.”

Blue Origin is now making it a habit of criticizing its space rivals, it earlier took a dig at Virgin Galactic.

Before Virgin Galactic’s July 11 successful passenger space flight. It argued that Richard Branson’s company technically did not travel to Space.

Blue Origin in a tweet on Friday, July 9. The company said the Virgin Galactic’s space flight plan technically does not count as space travel.

 

In the United States, the Air Force registers “Space” as anywhere to be 50 miles above the average sea level. While the Kármán line standard considers “Space” as anywhere 62.1 miles above the average sea level. Here lies the argument.

Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity Spaceship has flown a maximum altitude of 55.9 miles. This is above the United States threshold but lower than the popular Kármán line standard.

 

Impressively, Blue Origin New Shepard spaceship has flown over 62.1 miles definitely in line with the Kármán line standard.

 

“From the beginning, New Shepard was designed to fly above the Kármán line so none of our astronauts have an asterisk next to their name.” Blue Origin said.

“For 96% of the world’s population, space begins 100 km(62.1 miles) up at the internationally recognized Kármán line.”

From the Blue Origin narrative, the Virgin Galactic VSS Unity spaceship only flew a sub-orbital flight. Since it’s below the Kármán line.

Once again, Blue Origin is claiming that the SpaceX lunar lander craft is heavy and unsafe for Space travel. There is no response from SpaceX and the NASA agency. We will let you know of any.
