Know Exactly Where Your Airpods Are With The Find My App On iOS 15

You can find exactly where your AirPods are with the find my app feature on iOS 15. This has far better functionality than its previous features. The new feature only works on Airpods Pros and AirPods Max.

The previous functionality for finding your AirPods using the find my app only shows where your AirPods was last seen. This new feature on iOS 15 not only shows where the last signal of your AirPods is.  They now display a radar interface to shows how far you are from the wireless buds.

Previously, an iOS 15 beta code seen by 9to5Mac shows that Apple will use the same Bluetooth technology to locate Airpods when nearby. Although this doesn’t allow a lock function in case of theft, someone can connect the AirPods to other devices.

The Airpods Beta iOS internal code says,

These AirPods are linked to your Apple ID. Removing them will allow another person to configure Find My Network. […] Removing these AirPods will allow another person to configure Find My Network and it will no longer be linked to your Apple ID.

To use this new functionality users need to have the latest firmware update for their AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

Your AirPods Pro might have received the firmware update. To check, simply:

  • Head to the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Click on General, and then About.
  • Look at the firmware number on the section tagged Firmware Version.

If it shows that it is running firmware “4A400” then your AirPods Pro can use the find my app feature. Sadly, there’s no manual way to update your AirPods, you just wait to check to see if they are.
