DC comics has announced that the new Superman in his fictional life will come out as bis*xual. His s*xuality will be explored in an upcoming comic issue due 9th November.
DC Comics explained that the plot will see Jon Kent strike up a friendship and later fall for pink-haired reporter Jay Nakamura. the pair will become romantically involved in the upcoming fifth issue, after Jon mentally and physically burns out from trying to save everyone that he can.
“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes. I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea. Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice,” Series writer Tom Taylor said in a statement.
In an interview with BBC Tom explains that, despite backlash from “trolls” on social media, reaction to the storyline has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We have people saying they read this news today and burst into tears. People saying they never thought in their life that they would be able to see themselves in Superman literally the most powerful superhero in comics,”
The announcement coincided with Monday’s 11th October National Coming Out Day, which began in 1988. The day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights.
The anniversary has since become an annual event held on 11th October. Although it began in the United States, it is marked in many places around the world.
