Apple just made yet another hire. Only a few days after hiring Google’s AI expert, Ian Goodfellow, they have also hired the founder of Virtual Reality content start-up company.

Arthur Van Hoff came on board at Apple as the Senior Architect for an unnamed team. He is a founding executive of VR startup Jaunt, a Disney-backed startup. This new hire is in line with Apple’s plans to delve into the world of augmented reality.

Van Hoff is a notable name in virtual reality. He is a veteran of multi-camera systems and video creation for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Hoff helped the start-up Jaunt focus on AR and capturing images with depth-sensing cameras. He left the company in December 2018.

It is yet uncertain what he will be doing for Apple. He made the announcement on his LinkedIn profile.

HoloLens co-creator Avi Bar-Zeev left Apple two months ago. He had worked with the company for three years. It was speculated that they were planning an Augment Reality headset.

There are rumours that Van Hoff might be taking over from where Bar-Zeev left. It also looks like Apple is trying to introduce and maximise 3D and AR features in Apple devices. They might also be adding laser-assisted cameras to the iPhone to capture depth data.
