Microsoft is currently testing an automatic speaker muting feature when headphones are plugged into its Xbox consoles. This new feature is part of its Xbox Insider Alpha Skip-Ahead ring testing, that rolling out to Beta testers.
This new update includes background improvements, which should ensure a stable platform for its box consoles. Earlier when gamers plug in their headphones while a game is on, the speakers still stay on.
Close rival PlayStation can intelligently mute its console speakers whenever a headphone is plugged into the console. Xbox says its console will have a new “Mute Speaker audio when headset attached” and a new “Audio testing & details” page.
The new feature will now mute speaker audio when a headset is attached. Users will have to enable this after Xbox sends out the update globally.

Microsoft boasts this headset will churn out 15 hours of listening time per charge. While a 30 minutes charge will give users 4 hours of listening time, and a Full charge in 3 hours time.
It uses the same design language used for its Surface headphones. The rotating dials on both ear cups are super intuitive. The left dial has an external mic for voice dialogue, gamers can adjust chat and games sound by rotating the dial.
On the left dial is the volume control, which can also be adjusted by rotating the dial. Sadly, the Xbox wireless headset has only passive noise cancellation, at $99 it’s no biggie.
The competition doesn’t offer passive cancellation, not to talk of active noise cancellation. Still on the right ear cup is a USB-C port for charging, and connectivity using a USB-C to USB Type-A cable for PCs.
Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless Headset certainly packs a punch of features considering its budget $99 price, a premium ideal headset for first-time gamers. Its new mute feature is a thoughtful addition Xbox gamers would certainly love.
