Gucci Family Threatens Legal Suit Over Ridley Scott’s “House Of Gucci”

The family of Gucci fashion house has expressed their displeasure at House of Gucci” director Ridley Scott.

The fashion biopic centres on the story of Italian socialite Patrizia Reggiani. Reggiani was sentenced to 29 years in prison for plotting the murder of her husband portrayed by Maurizio Gucci. At the time Maurizio was heir to the Gucci Empire.

Italian media agency ANSA reported reports that the family took particular issue with the depiction of Reggiani, as ” a victim”.

The letter says  Gucci “was an inclusive company and stressed that there were several women who occupied top positions in the company in the 1980s when the film is set.

“The Gucci family reserve the right to take every initiative to protect their name and image and those of their loved ones,” a letter signed by Aldo Gucci’s read.

The statement also alleged that the Gucci family were falsely portrayed as “hooligans” who were “ignorant and insensitive to the world that surrounded them,” ANSA added.

“House of Gucci” premiered in Britain earlier in November. The film’s cast also includes stars Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Irons and Jared Leto.

The movie is based on the 2001 book “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour and Greed” by Sara Gay Forden.
