Canoo is making some leadership changes in its management, including three executives including chief technology officer Peter Savagian. He will be leaving the startup by the end of the year, the ex General Motor chief engineer worked as chief engineer for its EV1 electric car.
Sohel Merchant would be replacing Savagian as chief technology officer, while the current head of Cannoo’s vehicle program Bill Strickland would also leave by the end of the year.
Canoo was founded in 2017 after a former executive of Faraday Future Stefan Krause left the once struggling EV startup. He left just three years afterwards to join Apple to develop its Electric Vehicle car project. Another executive to leave was Canoo chief lawyer left the company exactly the same Krause left.
Co-founder Phil Weicker left four years after Founder Krause in 2021, the latest executive to leave is its Chief financial officer Paul Balciunas, resigning in April this year.
The third executive to leave the startup would be Alexi Charbonneau head of powertrain at canoo. He previously worked at Tesla and SpaceX before the electric startup. Only three of the original founders of the startup would remain, Christoph Kuttner remains in charge of the aesthetics of Canno’s vehicles.

Current CEO Tony Aquila now has the responsibility of pushing the startup to greater heights. He is moving its headquarters from California to quiet Bentonville, Arkansas. The company says that it will be opening a production factory in the state.
Canoo says with this new facility, it plans to hasten its electric van production “before q4 2022.” According to its CEO Tony Aquila, Arkansas factory will specially make vehicles for unique use cases” and more research and development functions.
Dynamics
News from the company highlight a dynamic structure of operations, its Oklahoma office will still have customer support, R&D, software development and finance teams.
Its California office will majorly hold its engineering and vehicle design staff. While there will be more research and development staff at the proposed Arkansas facility.
Canoo initially had plans to begin electric vehicle production at its Oklahoma factory in 2023.
Its recent facility is on a 400-acre site at the MidAmerica Industrial Park complex in Pryor, Oklahoma. According to Canoo, it will have a paint shop, body shop, and general assembly plant.
