iPhones May Soon Be Able To Perform Contactless Peer To Peer Payments

Your iPhone may soon be able to make contactless payments with other iPhones according to reports from Bloomberg. The report says that this functionality would not require any additional hardware. Apple is making this possible through payment Startup Mobeewave, which it bought in 2020. This technology should be in iPhones in no distant time with Bloomberg saying “in the coming months.”

Contactless Payment Startup

Mobeewave is no beginner in the contactless payment industry, it has previously worked with Samsung POS in Canada. In the year 2019, the NFC technology with Samsung POS made direct payments available through Apple Pay and Google pay services.

Bloomberg believes this functionality should arrive in the beta version of iOS 15.4. Apple’s 15.3 was recently released with a keen focus on security. This latest version addresses the recent Safari browser breach with an update for iPadOS also.

Elsewhere Apple is currently rolling out a fix for a bug that prevented third-party apps from syncing in iCloud. This problem has been active for months now, it was until a developer asked on Apple’s community forum we knew a fix was out.

The tech company responded that it has “investigated this issue on the CloudKit backend, and have implemented a fix.” The tech company says that errors that “resemble request-throttling that may be affecting a specific user, or the container as a whole,”  may be the cause.

While this is mostly resolved, we are excited about the future of contactless peer to peer payments. Small businesses that actively transact in cash would welcome this new development. We are not sure if Apple would rename ‘Mobeewave’ as Apple pay or remain a stand-alone.

However, regardless of that, we are certain this technology would be a hit in developing economies. The iPhone is one of the most powerful tools of change, and we can’t wait to tap iPhones together to make payments.
