Nigerian Singer, Banky W has reacted to the reopening of the Lekki toll gate in April.
The Lekki tollgate was the epicentre of the nationwide protests against police brutality and bad governance during the October 2020 #EndSars nationwide protest.
Unfortunately on 20th October 2020, protesters at the tollgate were dispersed from the location by men of the Nigerian Army who shot live rounds at them.
Meanwhile the Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCC) is ready to reopen the Lekki and Lekki-Ikoyi Toll Plaza. Operations would begin on April 1st, while fees would not be collected until April 15th.
Reacting, Banky W in a tweet on Frida March 18, said the decision shows a lack of empathy by the Lagos State Government. According to him, the timing of the decision was unfair.
”The intended resumption of collections at the Lekki toll gate is yet another example of a serious lack of empathy by the Lagos State Govt. Life in Nigeria has been extremely difficult,” he tweeted.

TV personality Stephanie Coker Aderinokun had earlier expressed her displeasure over the issue. In her tweet, she explained how the fuel hike has personally affected her while lamenting the planned toll gate reopening.
The bill for my car as a result of bad fuel is 3.7m, a 2020 car o! Diesel is now 780, and now that the power grid has collapsed, it will probably increase. I drove by Lekki toll gate and it states toll charges will resume on April fools day. Are we fools or are we being fooled?
