iPhone 14, expected to be launched in September 2022, is rumoured to be coming with satellite connectivity for emergency situations.
Bloomberg’s tech insider Mark Gurman is responsible for this latest iPhone 14 rumour after he mentioned that a coming Apple Watch would have satellite connectivity.
“The company is also working to eventually bring satellite connectivity to the Apple Watch, setting the stage for emergency texting and SOS response features,” Gurman wrote before adding that it will also naturally come to future iPhones.
Satellite connectivity is very important in emergency situations because, depending on the scale of the disaster, cellular connections might be down.

However, to prevent abusing the privilege, it could only work for sending SOS texts to emergency personnel and authorities. Access to general web browsing would be blocked, along with music or video streaming. Additionally, Gurman says that it would feature shortcuts and message templates to quickly seek help.
Take note that this is not the first time that satellite connectivity has been teased, and by this time last year (2021) iPhone 13 was also being touted to be the iOS device that finally brings it. Well, that was not the case.
Of course, there are satellite phones that you can use during emergencies, but it would definitely help if regular smartphones could also do the same job.
