Chris Novak is leaving Xbox head of research and design position after 20 years

Microsoft and Xbox design chief Chris Novak is leaving the company after 20 years of working in various departments and leading game-changing projects.

Announcing his departure via a LinkedIn post, Novak wrote:

“I have loved my time with Xbox, building end-to-end experiences for gamers is a privilege. There are very few things one gets to work on in life which evoke such passion in people around the world. I adore listening to gamers and envisioning that next moment of unexpected delight. Gaming is amazing. Xbox will always be with me.”

While he had worked at Microsoft for decades, he had the most impact in the last five years while working on Xbox projects. For example, he headed user experience for Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Xbox Live. At Microsoft, he had contributed as a design architect and later as design director.

Speaking about his career in an interview published on Tuesday , he was very appreciative of everything the company had done for him.

“Microsoft has been where I’ve gotten to learn in the crucible of gaming, from the world’s best across the industry. I’ve got to see it in its best times and its worst times. And that learning process, I tremendously treasure,” Chris Novak said.

In related news, the Xbox Game Pass he co-pioneered already hit more than 25 million subscribers early this year. No doubt, Novak would be glad to know that his time at Microsoft was valuable.
