You can now transfer your WhatsApp chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages from your Android phone to an iPhone. According to Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement, the feature was one of the most requested. In a Facebook post, Meta’s CEO wrote:
“We’re adding to WhatsApp the ability to securely switch between phones and transfer your chat history, photos, videos, and voice messages between Android and iPhone while maintaining end-to-end encryption. This is a top requested feature. We launched the ability to switch from iPhone–>Android last year, and now adding Android–>iPhone as well.”
With the addition of Android to iPhone transfer, you can now switch your device easily and continue using the same WhatsApp account.
How to transfer WhatsApp chat history on iPhone
- Ensure that you have an iCloud backup by going to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
- Confirm that the last backup was recent, then you can delete and reinstall WhatsApp.
- After you verify your phone number, follow the prompts that come up to restore your chat history.
- You must be signed in with your Apple ID that is connected to the iCloud and iCloud Drive must be turned on.
- You must have enough free space on both your iCloud and iPhone. (A minimum of 2.05 times the space available in your iCloud account and on your phone than the actual size of your backup).
- You must use the same phone number for backing up and restoring. (You can’t restore the chat history from another WhatsApp account).
- You can have backups for multiple WhatsApp accounts stored in the same iCloud account because backups are tied to individual phone numbers.
