Meta will retire the Facebook Live Shopping feature in favour of Reels by October 1. The shop feature is the latest casualty of Facebook’s bid to look like the viral video-sharing platform, TikTok.
Not many people know about the Facebook Live Shopping feature, but it would likely have eventually grown on users. The feature allowed Facebook Business owners to show their products to customers via live videos. You could pull a crowd if you have many followers and notify them beforehand about your upcoming event.
With the feature retiring, Meta is urging sellers to embrace the power of Reels. “As consumers’ viewing behaviors are shifting to short-form video, we are shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta’s short-form video product,” the company said.

However, Facebook Live will still be active, but it will lose some essential business features like the ability to create product playlists and tag products in the videos.
Business owners who own a shop with checkout can host Live Shopping events on Instagram with the Live Shopping on Instagram feature. In addition, you can download previously live videos from your Page or in the Creator Studio.
Meta believes that it is giving sellers more reach with the change. “If you want to reach and engage people through video, try experimenting with Reels and Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram,” the company encouraged. “You can also tag products in Reels on Instagram to enable deeper discovery and consideration.”
