Amazon Prime Video launches in Nigeria with local content in tow and it is almost as cheap as Netflix.
In a Tweet, the American streaming company announced its entrance into the Nigerian entertainment space to battle Netflix dominance and make Showmax task even harder.

One of the major changes is that Prime Video will now show local-language interfaces, subtitling, and original content offerings typical in more developed markets, according to a TechCrunch report.
Its first Nigerian show will be Gangs of Lagos, a film by Jadesola Osibeu that stars Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Adebowale Adedayo, Alabi Pasuma, and others. Somehow, we can’t shake the feeling that Prime Video hopes that the crime action movie will be as much a success on its platform as King of Boys was for Netflix.
In addition, Nigerian users can access other popular shows and movies on Prime Video like the superhero series The Boys, Arsenal football club’s documentary All or Nothing, spy action-thriller Reacher, and the thriller/spy movie All the Old Knives.
There is also no need to look for a dollar card or go through the stress of forex to pay subs as Amazon will accept your Naira cards. Subscriptions are currently set a NGN2,300 per month. The pricing is slashed because the Naira equivalent of the regular rate would have been about NGN4,000. You also get a 7-day free trial as a first time user.
