Facebook and Instagram now support NFTs, a couple of months after its parent company, Meta, had promised to roll out support for digital collectibles.

The first stage of this support will allow owners to post their NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. They only need to connect their digital wallet to one of the two apps to be able to access both platforms.

Meta had begun testing NFT support on Instagram in some countries and recently started allowing it on Facebook. While this initial support seems passive, the social media giant has other plans for the NFT market.

According to Engadget, Meta will be making a deeper entry into the non-fungible token space. Although it is still a rumour, we heard that the company is building a marketplace where people can buy and sell NFTs directly from Facebook and Instagram.

Likely, NFTs may also play some bigger role in its planned metaverse when it becomes fully functional. How that will play out is still unclear at this time.

Since its ad business came under the threat of privacy laws and new checks that arise almost daily, it appears that the Mark Zuckerberg group of companies are spreading their arms as wide as possible.

The aim is to build each platform into a sort of ‘super app’ where users can do almost anything. We can already see this in the new products (features) that are coming to WhatsApp.
