Twitch biggest streamers, Ninja and Pokimane, are taking streaming break

Two of Twitch biggest streamers, Ninja and Pokimane, are taking a break from streaming. According to a report by IGN, their reasons seem to imply having outgrown the platform.

Richard Tyler Blevins, popularly known as Ninja, is the most popular gamer in the gaming industry. Since 2011, he had been streaming his content on Twitch and YouTube, and he has garnered nearly 3 billion views on both platforms.

On Twitch, he has 18.32 million followers but these audience comes from relentless hours of gaming. He once held 667,000 live viewers captive, in 2018, with his Ninja Vegas event.

Before announcing his break from streaming, Ninja had hinted that he was ‘super under the weather.’ Then, he went on Twitter to break the news: “I just need a break… I don’t know when I will be back, or where.”

After this Tweet, he changed his Twitter name to “User Not Found”, pinned the last post, and changed his banner pic to TIME OUT”. He also did the same thing on his Instagram account.

As for Pokimane, whose real name is Imane Anys, she claimed that she wanted to try out other platforms and no longer felt the excitement that Twitch streaming once gave her.

“I feel like other platforms fit into my lifestyle nowadays a little bit better,” she revealed. “I hope it doesn’t sound big-headed of me to say, but nowadays when I see things on Twitch, it kinda feels like ‘been there, done that.

“There’s such a pressure on streamers to follow every trend, to capitalize on viewership, to stream longer than the guy next to them,” she added. “It’s just a hyper-competitive industry. But ultimately, the reason I say this is because I’m just at a point in my life that it doesn’t feel creatively fulfilling to feed into that anymore.”

Pokimane is the most followed female Twitch streamer and combined with her YouTube presence, she has had over one billion views online.

Both Ninja and Pokimane hinting at other platforms apart from Twitch, may mean that the site may just not be enough for them anymore.
