Google is paying tribute to the late Australian country artist and composer Slim Dusty with a Doodle today
This is coming 22 years after receiving the Outstanding Achievement honor from the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards
Dusty recorded more than 100 albums and sold over seven million copies during a career spanning nearly seven decades.
Monday’s doodle marks the day he was awarded the “outstanding achievement” award at the ARIA music awards in 2000.
It shows Dusty smiling and playing the guitar with a plain of cattle and mountains behind him.
Dusty also made history by being the first performer to have his voice transmitted to Earth from space in 2000.
As they orbited over Australia, astronauts in the spacecraft Columbia sent Dusty’s recording of Waltzing Matilda,
the song he perfromed to end the Sydney Olympic Games, back to Earth.

Furthermore, the Slim Dusty Center and Museum opened in his hometown of Kempsey in 2015,
and the Royal Australian Mint produced a coin honoring his life.

Born David Gordon Kirkpatrick, he wrote his first song at the tender age of 10 called The Way the Cowboy Dies.
However, A year later, he adopted the stage name Slim Dusty, which he thought was better suited to a country music-singing cowboy.
At the age of 15, he created his first recording and sent it to radio stations. As a result, he eventually signed a recording deal with Columbia Graphophone Records.
He also wrote and recorded the songs that came to be known as Bush Ballads about ten years after he started performing at venues, rodeos, and neighborhood concerts.
These were musical biographies of the people and locations in the Australian outback, small towns, and wilderness.
Meanwhile, His song A Pub with No Beer, written by his friend Gordon Parsons, became the best-selling song recorded by an Australian. This led to him being awarded the first Gold Record in Australia.
Dusty was known for his iconic hats, which were always turned down at the front.
