Epic Games VP of engineering Nick Penwarden claimed that more than half of all the announced games for next-gen consoles are being built on the company’s Unreal Engine platform.
While the company may have become famous in recent times for its fight against Apple’s App Store charges, its innovation in the gaming industry is also well known.
Video games like Stray, Shadow Warrior, Gotham Knights, and so on were built on the development platform. In April 2022, the company announced an upgrade, Unreal Engine 5 and made it possible for developers using its previous platform, Unreal Engine 4, to bring their games over to the new one and continue building it.

“When we set out to build Unreal Engine 5, having that backward compatibility to be able to bring in games from UE4 was really important to us, and so it’s been really great to see developers embrace that,” Penwarden told The Verge in an interview.
Even before the launch of the latest platform, the platform was already the choice of about 48% of game makers. It is expected to see more usage in the future as developers focus on building games for next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Game Rant claims that action-adventure game Black Myth: Wukong by Game Science, cyberpunk battle royale game Off the Grid by Gunzilla Games, action-adventure game Hell is Us by Rogue Factor, and even massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) ArcheAge 2 by XLGames are being developed on Unreal Engine 5.
