US State Wyoming Could Phase Out EV Sales By 2035

Wyoming, a state in the US, saw a bill to phase out the sale of EV by 2035 to protect its oil and gas industry.

According to a report by Teslarati, the bill was sponsored by Senators Jim Anderson, Brian Boner, Ed Cooper, and Dan Dockstader, and Representatives Donald Burkhart, Jr, and Bill Henderson.

It supported the continued growth of the fossil fuel industry because it has been responsible for job creation and revenues of the state. They fear that EVs threaten the future of their main source of wealth.

“The proliferation of electric vehicles at the expense of gas-powered vehicles will have deleterious impacts on Wyoming’s communities and will be detrimental to Wyoming’s economy and the ability for the country to efficiently engage in commerce,” a portion of the bill read.

In addition, they argued that electric vehicles were not yet practical for use in the state. One of the reasons they gave in the bill was that there was not enough charging infrastructures for it. Also, they poked at the making of batteries and the materials needed for them, which they claim are not recyclable and disposal further creates pollution.

Wyoming’s fear may seem unfounded as many experts in the electric vehicle industry believe that the oil and gas industry is not going away anytime soon, even Elon Musk. Although, the bill doesn’t think so.

“Phasing out the sale of new electric vehicles in Wyoming by 2035 will ensure the stability of Wyoming’s oil and gas industry and will help preserve the country’s critical minerals for vital purposes,” it said.
