Summary: A leaker and developer, Alessandro Paluzzi, has hinted that Facebook and Instagram could be working on a paid verification system similar to Twitter’s. The possibility of a paid verification system has sparked interest as verification on these platforms is currently difficult. However, it could also dilute the value of verification and it is unclear if the payment would include a version of the Meta platform that offers additional features.
Facebook and Instagram could be working on paid verification just like what we currently have on Twitter, according to leaker and developer, Alessandro Paluzzi.
Paluzzi has proven to be reliable on several occasions and this time, he claims to have spotted code lines that said: “IG_NME_PAID_BLUE_BADGE_IDV” and “FB_NME_PAID_BLUE_BADGE_IDV.”
Of course, both Facebook and Instagram are yet to confirm or deny the news, and there is no point in waiting as they typically don’t comment on ‘rumours’ or ‘speculations’.

Paid verification was not a thing among the likes of Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, at least not in the open, until Twitter under Elon Musk came around. However, Engadget claims that there is a black market for it that requires some users to pay tens of thousands of dollars for the blue tick.
Verification on Instagram and Facebook is an uphill task and a paid option may appeal to many, although, like we see on Twitter now, it could water down the value. Also, it is not yet clear if the payment would include a version of the Meta platform that brings more features as Twitter Blue does.
We look forward to when Meta would announce the paid version of its social media apps, as there is little doubt that they would come soon. If you recall, the company had hinted at monetising its more than four billion combined users directly in the wake of declining digital ads revenue.
