Babajide Sanwo-Olu explained that the government will tackle the security issues in Lagos State with technology. The newly elected Lagos State governor also said that his administration will get financial support from the private sector. This they hope to do with the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

As a pioneer member of the Board of Trustees of LSSTF, Sanwo-Olu was familiar with the security challenges of Lagos State. He subsequently said that the trust fund will leverage contributions from the private sector to assist in funding security in Lagos State.

The plan, according to him, is for his administration to leverage technology in enhancing the capacity of security agencies. He said a bill will replicate a bill to mimic the trust fund.

The governor-elect said this on Monday, 22nd April 2019. Members of the LSSTF visited him and his deputy, Femi Hamzat. The visit was to congratulate them on their victory in the past governorship election.

In the statement released, it quoted Sanwo-Olu as saying,

“It is on record that other states have continued to come to understudy the LSSTF to replicate it. While at the federal level, a bill to establish a Police Trust Fund is being considered at the National Assembly for the same purpose.”

The chairman of LSSTF Board of Trustees, Oye Hassan-Odukale, said in response,

“[The] underfunding of security agencies, which led to the establishment of the trust fund, still existed while they also have to grapple with the menace of kidnapping, terrorism/insurgency, drug abuse/trafficking and cult-related crimes.”

Lagos State is always looking for new ways to tackle insecurity. This exposed the metropolitan city to more police and Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) brutality more recently.
