1. Long Shot

Release Date: 3rd May 2019
Starring: Charlize Theron, Seth Rogen, Alexander Skarsgård
Directed By: Jonathan Levine

Director Jonathan Levine (“50/50”, “Warm Bodies”) had a bit of a misstep with last year’s “Snatched”, but this comedy may earn him some accolades. Seth Rogen stars as an unemployed journalist who attempts to woo his childhood babysitter, a powerful political figure played by Charlize Theron. Alexander Skarsgård, Bob Odenkirk, Andy Serkis and O’Shea Jackson Jr. round out the star-studded cast.

 

2. Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

Starring: Lily Collins, Zac Efron, Angela Sarafyan
Directed By: Joe Berlinger

This is a chronicle of the crimes of Ted Bundy, from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who refused to believe the truth about him for years.

 

3. Ugly Dolls

Starring: Emma Roberts, Janelle Monáe, Nick Jonas
Directed By: Kelly Asbury

Based on the popular line of plush toys, this animated musical film stars Kelly Clarkson as one of the titular creatures. She ventures from their side of the mountain where they live to the other side, where the residents of a town called Perfection make them realise how different they are. Expect lots of lively music and colourful visuals as it goes up against “Detective Pikachu” on the same weekend.

 

4. Pokémon Detective Pikachu

US Release Date: 10th May 2019
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Suki Waterhouse
Directed By: Rob Letterman

In case you hadn’t heard, Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise ever. Pokemon Detective Pikachu is a live-action/animation hybrid film based on the video game of the same name. This film will feature Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu. While it’s not entirely off-brand for Reynolds to sign on for a role that only requires him to scream his character’s name over and over again, Detective Pikachu actually speaks. Get ready to crack up with this because he’s one funny breed.

 

5. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Anjelica Huston

At the end of John Wick: Chapter 2, Keanu Reeves’ titular hit-man went on the run after he broke the rules and murdered a high-level crime lord on the grounds of the Continental. In this third instalment of the adrenaline-fuelled action franchise, super-assassin John Wick (played by Keanu Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado. Nevertheless, the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his return.

Ad Astra is an upcoming American epic science fiction thriller film directed by James Gray and written by Gray and Ethan Gross. Twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, Roy McBride, an Army Corps engineer travels through the solar system to find him. He also seeks to understand why his mission failed. The film will star Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Donald Sutherland and Jamie Kennedy.

 

7. Aladdin

Starring: Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Nasim Pedrad, Mena Massoud
Directed By: Guy Ritchie

Disney’s supremely lucrative live-action adaptations project continues unabated, with this update of the 1992 animated classic. Mena Massoud has been cast as Street Rat #1 Aladdin, with Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine. Also, Will Smith plays the Genie this time, with director Guy Ritchie making his family entertainment debut.

 

8. Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Starring: Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe
Directed By: Michael Dougherty

Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse. This film is an epic action-adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. Finally, Godzilla is back in the global ring, with new challengers Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. Original Godzilla reboot director Gareth Edwards is leaving blockbuster filmmaking for a while after “Rogue One”, allowing Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”, “Trick ‘r Treat”) to suit up. Franchise lynchpin Ken Watanabe is back, as Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Millie Bobby Brown, and Kyle Chandler enter the fray.
