Google’s new extension lets you know when you need to change your password. This is particularly necessary with the database breaches prevalent in recent times.

Facebook, Tinder, Instagram and the likes have had incidents of user data leaks at various times in the past year. This pretty much makes it necessary to keep your passwords safe at all times. This is, of course, to avoid getting hacked and pretty much losing your online accounts altogether.

Services like Watchtower and Have I Been Pwned? helps users keep track of their passwords. Google’s Password Checkup tool is also here to keep you safe online. The tool, which was announced earlier in the year, is available for all Chrome users.

To set up the service, you only need to install the Password Checkup extension on to your Chrome Web Store. The extension will constantly monitor when a user logs into a website, and it will detect if the password has been leaked.

It will display a bright red warning pop up box that will advise you to change your password. It also works for bank apps and payment sites. This will help you have a more secure online experience.

If you don’t care to see the alert for a specific site, you can instruct the extension to quit reminding you to change the password. You can go to the Advanced Settings to clear the preference for ignored sites by clicking the extension icon.

Peradventure you miss the warning, the Password Checkup icon will stay red. This will then let you go to the said website by clicking on the link. You may decide to ignore the warning if you have already changed the password.
