Electronic Arts (EA) recently announced that the next “Star Wars” game will launch on 15th November 2019. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be available on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4. However, pending that time, here are some great Star Wars games you could check out.
Eight great Star Wars games
1. 1998 Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Rogue Squadron is a flying game. Players get to fly along a particular route while they try to eliminate enemies and avoid obstacles. The game brings players through the original trilogy story as they navigate by controlling Luke Skywalker. It features battles from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
2. 1999 Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance
This game focuses entirely on piloting the starcrafts in the Star Wars universe. It all takes place exclusively from inside the cockpit. This is the third and final game in the X-Wing series of space flying simulators. It has more than 50 single player missions and is available for up to eight players.
3. 2003 Star Wars Jedi Knight – Jedi Academy
This game takes place after Return of the Jedi. Luke Skywalker works to restore the Jedi order. It is built with the same engine as the Unreal Tournament 2003. It is a first-person shooter game with great customisation and gameplay. The lightsabre, once activated, switches the game to third-person mode. It will also let you use force powers during combat as you create your own character at the centre of the story.
4. 2004 Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords
Players get to control a Jedi Knight that is on exile. They need to choose between the light and dark side of the force. It is a single-player roleplaying game set thousands of years before the films. When the players choose a side, they engage with non-playable characters (NPC). The combat in the game happens in real time and allows players to use over 30 various abilities.
5. 2005 Star Wars: Republic Commando
The players can control an elite squad of soldiers during the Clone Wars. This is the conflict between the Trade Federation and the Republic as depicted in Star Wars Episodes II & III. It has an emphasis on squad mechanics. The players can give their teammates specific commands based on the situation.
6. 2007 Lego Star Wars – The Complete Saga
The game offers engaging gameplay with silly humour. It also has a cooperative two-player campaign as a bonus. The game tells the true story of the original trilogy and the three Star Wars prequels.
7. 2010 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Galen “Starkiller” Marek used his powers as Sith to wreak havoc on his enemies and the environment. The game is set before the original Star Wars film. It explores Starkiller’s attempt to embrace the light sides of the force. He happens to be the original character created for the game with some powerful abilities.
8. 2017 Star Wars: Battlefront II
This is the latest Star Wars game with heavy implementation of micro-transactions. The game was hugely criticised for lacking content compared to the others before it. However, the matches allow up to 64 players at a time. It features a mixture of ground and space combats.
