The Kenyan arm of the African Women in Technology (AWIT) Conference is slated for this month. The Nairobi event will happen from the 18th to the 20th of July 2019. The Nigerian edition of the yearly conference took place in Nigeria in March 2019. Hosted by IBOM LLC, the three-day event focusses on empowering African women in technology.
The conference will provide a platform to advance the careers of African Women in the technology space. The theme is the same as the Lagos version titled “Awaken The Techazon Within.” The Nairobi conference will take place at Michael Joseph Center in Safaricom.
The participants of the event will have the opportunity to network with speakers and leading women in the tech space. They can also learn from these women’s experiences and share some of their own at the free event. Furthermore, the event is open to the public.
Attendance to the event will require registration which you can do on the AWIT website. The event will also afford jobs to interns and match mentees with mentors. This is to essentially create a buffer of support for women looking to find their feet in the tech space.
The Goal
The founder of IBOM LLC and coroner of AWIT, Anie Akpe, while speaking on the event, said,
“It is exciting to see how much impact the African Women in Tech series is having on women across the continent. Kenya is particularly interesting because of the growth of the tech ecosystem and the women pioneering the advancement of the sector.”
“We are intentionally using our theme of “Awaken The Techazon Within” as a call to action for all women looking to grow, advance their careers and make an impact in their communities.
“Essentially, we want to encourage all participants to step outside of their comfort zones. And the topics covered this year will give tips on exactly how to make bold movements while navigating through the tech space,” she explained.
Furthermore, AWIT Nairobi 2019 will work in partnership with various companies. They include Nairobi Garage, Flutterwave, iHub, KamiLimu, Techmoran, Metta, Alx, Meltwater, Safaricom and others.
The African Women in Technology Conference will also host experienced female speakers in technology and business across the continent. Some of them are Malkia Judd Co-Founder and CFO at Sendy, Esther Ndeti Executive Director at EAVCA, Nekesa Were Managing Director at iHub, Laura Chite CEO at CIO East Africa, Ariane Fisher Managing Director at Shortlist, and more.
