Google announced the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 4a all at once. However, only the Piel 4a is available right now for pre-order while the other two phones will be available later in the year.

The smartphones should have been announced earlier but Google says the pandemic was responsible for the delay. Although the Pixel 4a is available on pre-order, it won ship till 20th August 2020.

As for its flagship Pixel 5, Google says the phone, which supports 5G, is “coming this fall”. They will be available in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Australia.

Google would traditionally launch its flagship later in the year. However, the late announcement of the budget 4a is probably the reason it is doing so now, to probably appease its customers.

According to Brian Rakowski, Google’s VP of product management, the company will “share more about these devices and [its] approach to 5G” in the coming months.

It seems the company will prefer not to be left out of the 5G conversation, hence its decision to announce the Pixel 4a. Rakowski says the 5G version of the 4a will cost  $499, a difference of $150 for the regular Pixel 4a which will cost $349. The company, however, did not quote a retail price for Pixel 5.
