A new investigation has revealed that a Chinese national has helped smuggle Apple products. The worldwide investigation shows that he trafficked over 40,000 fake items from China to America.

 

Forty-four-year-old Jianhua “Jeff” Li who lives in the US faces a sentence of 37 months in prison. They discovered that the Chinese citizen was part of a scheme to import fake Apple products. America’s justice department says the products include fake iPhones and iPads.

Li will also get a year of supervised release after he serves time in custody. The Justice Department said he trafficked over 40,000 electronic devices and accessories along with fake labels and packaging. In fact, the devices had Apple trademarks. Also, he smuggled these devices into the US between July 2009 and February 2014.

 

However, the reports explained that he shipped the fake Apple products separately from the fake labels. They did this to avoid detection by customs.

 

 

The Justice Department said,

“The devices were then shipped to conspirators all over the United States. Proceeds were funnelled back to conspirator accounts in Florida and New Jersey via structured cash deposits and then a portion was transferred to conspirators in Italy, further disguising the source of the funds.”

 

Li raked in over $1.1 million and wired them from US accounts to an account he controlled overseas. He was living in America with a student visa and has pleaded guilty. Li admitted to one count of conspiracy to traffic counterfeit goods and labels and to smuggle goods into the US. Also, he confessed to one count of trafficking counterfeit goods.

 

Li worked with several other people under his company, Dream Digital, to carry out these crimes.
