Emmanuel Macron, the French President, announced the creation of a French space force earlier in July 2019. The force is responsible for defending the country’s satellite. France’s Minister of Defence recently announced a program that would develop nanosatellites. These nanosatellites will reportedly be equipped with guns and lasers.

In a new announcement, the Minister of Defence, Florence Parly, said France would reallocate €700 million. The funds will come from the country’s military budget for space defence. They will also use the money to upgrade France’s network of military communications satellites. The French Navy operated the Syracuse satellite.
French’s military wants the next generation of satellites to carry cameras in order to detect danger. The future generation of equipment will have submachine guns and lasers to disable and attack other satellites.
The European country ministry also says that it wants to launch a swarm of nanosatellites. They will launch into the orbit to protect some specified objects. The nanosatellites will also possess the ability to launch satellites quickly to replace lost ones. France is working to put these systems in operation by 2030.
Parly explained that the goal is to use these satellites as a self-defence strategy. She added that the country would be able to identify and respond to hostile acts.
