If you are a cat lover, you are sure to have a field day on social media today, August 8, 2019. People spend hours on any given day watching cute and funny cat videos online. Cats are ruling social media today most especially Twitter. Cat memes are all over the place and international brands are also eating up the sensation. The hashtag, #InternationalCatDay shows how much solidarity our feline friends are getting on the internet. Cat lovers are using the opportunity to show off their pets too either on their best behaviour or not.
A bit of history about International Cat Day: it was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The day is also referred to as World Cat Day in some parts of the world. It has since grown popularity globally. The television channel, Nat Geo Wild, of course, joined in on Twitter to celebrate the day.

Today was also set aside to raise awareness for cats and learn about ways to help and protect them. If you are in Nigeria, you may want to join in and show us how much your feline friend means to you. Furthermore, it would seem a lot of the superstitions around cats in these parts are subtly starting to give way to more modern beliefs.

We don’t celebrate #InternationalCatDay in Nigeria. They are called witches. So, we don’t celebrate witchcraft. 😂😂
