Former Disney star Miley Cyrus and her husband, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, are separated. After seven months of marriage, the couple called it quits.
In a statement to People, Miley’s rep said,
“Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”
“They still remain dedicated parents to all of the animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth tied the knot at the tail end of last year, after dating on and off for nearly a decade. The two met in 2009 while filming an adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “The Last Song”. They announced their engagement in 2012. She began wearing her engagement ring again in early 2016, and the couple married in December 2018 in Tennessee.
Earlier this year, Liam discussed his marriage with E! and said,
“…You know, the husband and wife thing, it’s great, I’m loving it. I’m really, really happy and grateful to be in the position that I’m in.”
However, the marriage was a bit different from Miley’s vantage point. In an interview with Elle, she said,
“I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married. But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.”
Also, in an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress and musician detailed what it was like to be a queer person in a heteros*xual relationship.
It was a great run. But fans started to grow suspicious of the couple’s relationship status after Miley posted a photo on Instagram without her wedding ring.

Shortly after, the couple released the statements and images of Miley on vacation without Liam flooded Instagram. Liam Hemsworth is yet to comment personally on the matter.
