Minecraft developer Mojang has officially announced that it is cancelling the “Super Duper Graphics Pack” game. The game was unveiled at the most important gaming event, E3, in 2017. It was a downloadable update for the Minecraft game.
The game graphic pack was expected to bring features like realistic lighting and shadows, lifelike flora fauna, and reflective water surfaces. It was also meant to have a full 4K resolution for devices like Sony’s Xbox One X.
Mojang, while stating the reason for the cancellation, said: “The pack proved too technically demanding to implement as planned.” The studio also explained that it was unhappy with the game’s performance on devices.
The new game update was originally planned for 2017; it was subsequently pushed to 2018. However, this time, the game makers have decided to out rightly cancel the game. A major feature identified with the game is that it had low-resolution graphics. It meant the game could run on almost any device.
The fact that the game was able to run on anything from a smartphone to gaming PCs, and consoles meant the ultra-realistic version could encounter problems. In their post, the studio said:
“Minecraft is available on a wide range of platforms. We’re constantly trying to make the most of the technical architecture of each one. We’ll be able to share more on that subject very soon.”
It does seem like there will be other Minecraft updates in the future. Perhaps with a bit more work, it will release an update, unlike the Super Duper Graphics Pack, that will pose fewer problems.
