Amazon has a new disposal program that will do great when extended to other parts of the world. However, the new program is only available in the US and UK for now. The tech giants are donating unwanted products from their online marketplace. Instead of throwing unsold products away, Amazon will now donate them to non-profit organisations.
The program, called Fulfilled by Amazon Donations, will cause donations of thousands of Amazon products from third-party vendors. The company will then give out unsold merchandise to charity organisations in the US and UK. Before now, they threw unsold products that were either defected or returned in the trash.
Amazon in the Community director, Alice Shobe, gave a statement in this regard. She said, “We know getting products into the hands of those who need them transforms lives and strengthens local communities. We are delighted to extend this program to sellers who use our fulfilment services.”
Fulfilled by Amazon donations
The first round of donations will go out from 1st September 2019. This will be the new way the company will handle all leftover unsold products. Marketplace sellers on Amazon will automatically opt to let Amazon store and distribute their unsold products in this manner.
According to reports, the company threw about 293,000 products out of its facility in the space of nine months. Another documentary in France revealed details about Amazon’s disposal practices. The company had reportedly thrashed about 3 million televisions in only one year.
Perhaps, the new move is probably in reaction to these reports. The company now seeks to reduce waste and also create a more environment-friendly and cheaper way of relieving unsold items. However, the sellers can now pay a charge of 35 cents or less for their products to go to charities and non-profit organisations working directly with Amazon.
