In its bid to be more family-friendly, Spotify is adding a new feature to its Premium Family Plan. The music streaming app introduced a feature it calls, Explicit Content Filter. It will add the filter to the family plan to enable parents to protect their kids. Guardians and parents will now be able to make sure their children don’t listen to songs with explicit content.
This feature is pretty new as it was not always included in that family plan. This may be shocking as the Family Plan has been around for almost as long as the app. The company sort of thinks it is finally time to protect the kids from swear words and the like.
According to Spotify:
“With our updated plan, Spotify Premium Family Plan subscribers have on-demand access to 450,000 podcast titles and 50 million tracks of ad-free music. What’s more, parents will now be able to control the Explicit Content Filter setting of all other accounts on their plan (these parental controls are a long-requested feature).”
Spotify is also adding some other features to the Premium Family Plan. There will also now be an option it calls the Family Mix. It is described as “a personalized playlist packed with songs the whole family enjoys.” It sorts of sounds like a feature already on another music streaming app, Deezer.
“The update is now available in Ireland and will roll out in all markets with Premium Family this fall,” Spotify clarified. Also coming is the Family Hub that lets the billing user manage the Family’s settings. They can add and remove family members, update address and adjust parental control settings.
