The first car with a standalone Apple Music app would be Porsche’s electric vehicle, the Taycan. It won’t be CarPlay accessing Apple Music this time, but the app itself will be integrated into the car. Porsche’s North America CEO Klaus Zellmer confirmed that the car owner’s Apple ID will link to the car’s ID. Their collection of music will then be accessible in the car without pairing or signing in.
The Apple Music app will be available through the Porsche Taycan touchscreen display board. It will enable the users to access playlists, albums, radio stations, individual songs as well as voice commands. Porsche will also give Taycan owners three years of free data service.
Although, the luxury car company looks to take the integration into other vehicles. This is because Porsche offers new and existing Porsche owners free six-month Apple Music subscription.
Porsche owners probably won’t miss parting away with the $9.99 (₦36,200 naira) monthly subscription. However, it is still a nice incentive. Apparently, Porsche and Apple both take privacy very seriously. This is as Porsche is only working with Apple’s CarPlay and not Google’s Android system.
Porsche will introduce the integration to other Porsches and luxury model cars in the near future. It is important to note that the Taycan is yet to be launched. The car has a release date of 2020 and will launch next month. It will also cost about $75,000 (approximately ₦27.2 million).
