After a really long wait for its players, Fortnite’s mysterious black hole has closed and opened the game to Chapter 2. The ever-changing battle royal island on the addictive game, for two years now, has been a place where millions of people gather to play. But now, developer Epic Games rebooted Fortnight with a brand new Chapter 2, wiping out the old map and introducing a new location to explore.

If you thought the old island was dense, the new one looks wilder and more untamed than its predecessor. There are plenty of forests, mountains, and lakes to explore, but there are also much fewer city or urban locales. Albeit different, this abundance of green will likely remind long-time players of the early days of Fortnite. As the battle royale island continues to evolve through updates and new seasons, this might change. Meanwhile, the familiar flying battle bus is still there to carry you into battle.

Chapter 2 notably introduces new gameplay features. This includes new vehicles like boats to utilise, swimming, fishing, swimming and pogo sticks. Also, new multiplayer emotes let you co-ordinate dances with friends. New weapons include a common variant of the rocket launcher and a brand-new semi-automatic pistol.

Some features from the former chapter remain in the new one. There is a new subscription battle pass that players can pay for to earn bonuses like character skins. However, progression in the battle pass has changed slightly. This time, you can earn experience from doing more things like opening chests and getting kills. In the game, you’re able to better hide now, ducking in haystacks or dumpsters.

The transition between seasons was slightly bumpy. Although a large update was available for the game, it wasn’t immediately playable. Players who tried to log in received a “servers not responding”prompt. But the new chapter finally went live after a couple of hours. Also, the game’s official Twitter account has returned to normal.

Prior to this, Fortnite had a dramatic and lengthy in-game event that saw the destruction of the original island. It was subsequently sucked into a black hole and the game was down for nearly two days. This left millions of players staring at a mysterious black hole while they wait for details about the new season Then a leaked trailer provided a hint at what to expect.

Fortnite Season X launched at the beginning of August. The season proved controversial almost from the beginning. It introduced “rift zones”, which are unstable areas that have their own distinct rules and even visual styles. Some were also based on other properties like Borderlands and Batman. However, for some players, the speed of the updates was too fast. This made it hard for them to keep up with the changes.

In the wake of Chapter 2, these constant and significant changes now make a lot more sense.
