A BBC report revealed that there is a group of hackers specialising on Netflix theft. These criminals exploit a Netflix security loophole and use the accounts of their victims.

What they do is simply login the deactivated accounts and keep using it to stream videos. The original account owner’s bank account foots the bill. It is not clear how they obtain the passwords but it could be either by guessing or stealing it via another means.

Netflix is complicit in this crime. The video streaming company keeps data of accounts that have been deactivated for about 10 more months. Unfortunately, this includes bank billing information as well.

The company explained that they do this because some users cancel their subscription and reactivate them again. This strategy backfired in this recent hack.

Users have gone on Twitter to express their dissatisfaction. Here is a tweet of a victim:

Another issue is the fact that Netflix has not offered to refund the lost fund, another user also tweeted:

Netflix issued a public statement via a representative. As reported on Pulse, the person said:

“The safety of our members’ accounts is a top priority for us, and we are always working to improve this,

“We use a variety of measures to protect our members, notifying users to change their password when suspicious activity is detected, and when there is a sign-in to their account on a new device.

If a member notices any unusual activity on their account, they should contact us immediately.”

The company mentioned that they are always ready to hear from their customers. In addition, a report gives further disturbing insight. It turns out that hackers have set up shop on eBay where they sell Netflix login details of victims.

But, the streaming firm is putting an end to this business.
