The term fascinator first surfaced in the fashion world in 17th-century Europe. Back then, it referred to lacy scarf women wrapped around their heads (or “fastened,” hence the name).
Bigger than a barrette, modern fascinators are commonly made with feathers, flowers or beads. They need to be attached to the hair by a comb, headband or clip.
The basic elements of a fascinator are headbands or hair clips, feathers, flowers, ribbons, nettings, disc and crinoline.
You can wear a fascinator on either the right or left side of your head. Traditionally, you can wear it on the right-hand side.
You can wear on the front, but it is a little bit uncomfortable and the look is quite bold as well. The details of the fascinator should lie above your eyebrows.

Wearing a fascinator to a wedding is always appropriate unless the bride has specifically mentioned not to in the dress code.
Fascinators can add colour and personality to your outfit, and help pull a look together.
Before choosing a fascinator, it is always advisable to first put on the outfit that you will wear – clothing, shoes, and jewellery. Then look at the colours, shapes, patterns, and textures to see if the fascinator is suitable for the look you wish to achieve.
They are very easy to wear and are more convenient than conventional hats. Whether it is a traditional outfit or a dinner dress, a fascinator will surely save the day.
