Kiki Mordi Bags International Emmys Nomination For Her Work On “S*x For Grades”

In another glorious Nigeria-to-the-world moment, journalist Kiki Mordi and the BBC Africa Eye crew have been nominated for the International Emmys Award, “Current Affairs” category.

They receive the Emmys nod for their investigative documentary, “S*x for grades” which aired in 2019.kiki mordiAn excited Kiki Mordi took to her Twitter to share the news of her nomination.

The eight  International Emmy’s nominees were selected from six different countries; Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Speaking on the nominations, Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences shared;

“In the midst of the pandemic, we are grateful for news organizations like these who even before the pandemic were boldly exploring the issues in their societies.”

“We salute the outstanding work and great courage of our nominees for reporting on difficult and sensitive matters, despite the many challenges and obstacles continuously thrown at them.”

On Mordi’s nomination, International Emmys shared;

Female students in Nigeria and Ghana have been complaining of s*xual harassment by their university professors for decades. Now, in this investigative documentary, local journalist Kiki Mordi goes undercover to capture evidence of this behavior first-hand by uncovering shocking abuse in West Africa’s top universities.”

 

When the “S*x for grades” documentary aired, it brought to fore the rampant s*xual molestations ongoing in West African tertiary institutions. Now, Kiki Mordi and the BBC Africa Eye crew is getting an international nod for her work. The 29-year-old had previously won several awards including the People Journalism Price for Africa, 2020.

 

The award ceremony will air virtually on September 21st. Winners will be recognized alongside their American news peers.
