Tinder has announced new features to make meeting dates with matches safer. The new features will include emergency assistance, location tracking, and photo verification.
The app users will be required to submit a series of real-time selfies and then they’ll get a blue check from Tinder on their profile, proving they’re really who they say they are. Tinder says it will be testing the feature in certain markets before making it available to the rest of its users later in 2020.
This feature will also help fight the phenomenon of catfishing. Catfishing is using a fake identity online.
The features will first be available on US Tinder from 28th January 2020. However, the company hasn’t announced when they’ll be available globally.

Its parent company, Match Group which also owns PlentyOfFish, OkCupid and Hinge plans to make these features available on its other dating platforms too.
Tinder is also adding a safety center as part of its new features
Tinder will also partner with Noonlight, a service that’ll let people going on dates document data. Before going on a date users will be able to save information about the person and when the date is taking place. The service allows users “easily and discreetly trigger emergency services” if need be, Tinder said.
Noonlight’s technology will help users that hit the panic button alert emergency services and transmit highly accurate location data.
Some select users will also start to see AI-generated prompts in their chats. In the instance that someone receives a potentially offensive chat message, a prompt may ask, “Does this bother you?” In some other cases, the prompt will ask users if they’d like to rethink their decision before sending a particular message.
Tinder will also be adding a Safety Center, which will “keep members informed about these features while providing resources and tools”.
The safety center will eventually be both localized and personalized for daters, according to Tinder. These coming additions show just how important safety is.
