In 2020, cyber security is the most talked about feature and Firefox also provided some tips to ensure security. The Mozilla browser has been more present than recent years and it is keying into security lapses to entice customers.
With the Privacy Awareness day on 28th January 2020, Firefox gave users and others tips on how to stay safe. It provided these via a Twitter thread that also comes with GIF to demonstrate how to achieve the settings.
The internet browser started by advising smartphone users to hide their real names from the public eye. This is because, some users save their device name with their names. Thus, once they connect to a network someone else sees this.
Therefore, the browser advised:
Chances are your phone’s name is your name. That means every time you connect to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth everyone around you can see your name.
Keep it to yourself by editing your device name in settings. Here’s how: pic.twitter.com/79f8xz1B5Z

After this, there is also an advice that such things as location and notification permissions should be limited or turned off completely. Here is how to do this:
While you’re in your phone’s settings, adjust your app permissions to limit access to your location details, photos and contacts.

Also, it mentioned updating devices’ operating system (OS) especially when there are notifications to this effect. Updating your device OS is very important as new versions are always better equipped to handle bugs and attacks.
The last tip Firefox offered on data privacy is on curtailing Facebook’s reach over internet activities. This is important as report after report keep surfacing to show that social media services have far more control than previously known.
Firefox provides a Facebook Container tool that is an extension in its browser.
