Verizon, Samsung, Motorola And Qualcomm Achieve 4.2 Gbps On 5G Test

In a 5G network test, the combined efforts of Verizon, Samsung, Motorola and Qualcomm got a connectivity speed of 4.2 gigabits per second. This achievement shows the possible power of tech when 5G becomes mainstream.

Pioneers in the 5G network field came together to test its speed. To do this, the companies used carrier aggregation; a technology that combines multiple channels of spectrum to provide greater efficiency for data sessions transmitting over the wireless network.

Thus, with eight separate channels of mmWave spectrum, they achieved the impressive speed mentioned above. The coalition used Motorola’s upcoming flagship smartphone to test this.

According to Samsung’s news website, eight channel carrier aggregation using mmWave will be widely available on the 5G network in 2020.

Adam Koeppe, Senior Vice President of Technology Planning at Verizon had said concerning the company’s aim:

“We’re continuing to expand our 5G Ultra Wideband network, built to enable unique and transformational experiences for our customers. We are only beginning to scratch the surface of what 5G can do, demonstrated by this latest milestone.”

Huawei is noticeably missing from the companies listed in this group. While the company continues to pursue its 5G dreams, it seems more difficult without cooperation from the big names in the field. This is likely because of their US ban.

Further commenting on Verizon’s impressive test results, Koeppe said:

“We continue to innovate and introduce advanced technologies on our 5G network that will help us reach never-before-seen mobile capabilities and create new and exciting use cases across the consumer and enterprise landscape. Using 5G carrier aggregation, we are able to achieve unprecedented mobile speeds and bring the massive bandwidth available with mmWave spectrum to life.”

Joe Glynn, Vice President, Business Development, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. mentioned that the company is happy with the collaboration.

There is no hint on whether there will be future projects between all the companies involved. However, Glenn Shultz, Vice President of Innovation and Product Development at Motorola Mobility praised Motorolla’s smartphone. He also said about the device:

“[This] is a performance powerhouse designed to provide the fastest 5G speeds ever.

The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 Mobile Platform powers the Motorola’s upcoming flagship device. it also has the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System.

Magnus Ojert, Vice President, Networks Division, Samsung Electronics America said in a statement:

“This latest milestone demonstrates the transformative capability of Samsung’s industry-leading 5G technology coupled with Verizon’s mmWave spectrum …”

Surely, you are itching to start using this 5G network already.
