Google has told its potential job candidates that it will be conducting job interviews via online video conferences. This is because of the continuous spread of the coronavirus.
The company told the candidates that it will run all interviews through Google Hangouts or BlueJeans. It had sent an email to this effect to one applicant from the Google staffing team. Google plans to use both video conferencing tools, ‘for the foreseeable future’.
“In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and to protect our candidates’ and interviewers’ health and wellbeing, we will be conducting all Google interviews globally virtually via Google Hangout (or BlueJeans for applicable countries) for the foreseeable future,” Google stated in the email.
The digital giants this week banned all forms of international travel amongst its employees. This decision came on the heels of confirmation that an employee in its Zurich office had contracted the coronavirus.

The company also canceled its upcoming event, Google Cloud Next. Opting instead to hold the event online only. 30,000 attendees were at the Google Cloud Next in 2019 that was held in San Francisco.
Other tech companies have been adopting this policy of avoiding large gatherings as much as they can.
Amazon made a similar policy change very recently. Facebook on its part, limited in-person interviews and forbade its employees from bringing friends and family to its offices. The company also earlier canceled its F8 developer conference due to concerns regarding coronavirus.
GSMA also canceled the 2020 edition of the world’s biggest mobile event, Mobile World Conference. It reached this difficult decision after major tech companies decided against attending.
The outbreak of Coronavirus has already disrupted the plans most international companies set at the beginning of the year. The Top Five Big Tech Companies Have Lost $238 Billion due to its spread.
