Google is advising businesses affected by coronavirus to update their Google My Business listings. The company has provided a help document that describes how businesses can update information like phone numbers, business descriptions and business hours. Businesses can also use Google Posts to share more information.

The help page instructs in part:

“If your business is affected by COVID-19, update your Google My Business profile to provide the most accurate information to your customers. For example, change your hours of operation if you’re closing early, or add more details to your description. The updates will show on your Business Profile on Google Search and Maps.”

The company also tweeted on its twitter handle notifying users of the development. The tweet also includes the link to the help document.

Google to review the changes

Google adds that it will review the changes made before publishing them. It also encourages owners of affected businesses to add a note about the coronavirus to their business description that shows in Maps.

This includes any precautions the business may take or any delays that may occur. Other parts of the document read:

“Important: We may review your changes for quality before publishing them, so the changes may not immediately be available on Google Search and Maps.”

It is important for businesses affected by COVID-19 to update their listings, so its customers are aware of the changes and how it impacts them.

People use Google search many times to find information about businesses. Thus, the search engine giant is making sure that they get accurate information.
