How To Join Google Meet Video Meetings With Your Android Phone

With Google Meet, anyone can have video meetings with team members or join one from anywhere in the world, at any time – either from a computer or an Android device. The coronavirus pandemic makes it important for everyone to become conversant with these virtual meetings.

To join a Google Meet video meeting, you have to be; added to the Calendar event or belong to the same organization as the meeting organiser. However, with an existing participant’s approval, people who don’t have a Google Account or belong to the same organisation can also join.

Below are different ways to join a Google Meet video meeting using your Android device:

1. Google Calendar: To join from a Calendar event check your scheduled meetings in the Calendar app. Once you find it, open the event and tap on join video call.

2. Meet App: From Hangouts Meet (now renamed as Meet), you can join a video meeting using the Meet app. You can also choose to enter a meeting code. The Meet app works with any Google account, such as a G Suite account or an @gmail.com account.

To join from the Hangouts Meet app:

  • Open the Google Meet app.
  • Swipe up from the bottom to see your scheduled meetings.
  • Tap Join, or when there is a list of meetings, select the specific one and tap Join meeting.

3. Use a meeting code or nickname: You can get a meeting code from the joining information that was sent to you or at the end of the meeting link. Some may opt to use a nickname for their meeting as well.

Follow the steps below to do this:

  • Open the Hangouts Meet app and then tap on Meeting code.
  • Next, enter the meeting code or nickname. (The hyphens in a meeting code are optional).
  • Tap Join meeting.
  • If you are joining from a different organization or signed in to a G Suite account, choose between doing the following:
    — Select Ask to Join.
    — Or enter your name and tap Ask to Join.

4. Use a meeting link URL: If you want to join an impromptu video meeting, clicking the meeting link URL sent to you in a text or email. Then follow the prompts that come up.

5. Use a phone number: This is especially if you try to dial-in to a meeting created by a Calendar event before the event has started. It can also work when you try joining before a user has started the meeting.

You receive an error that the PIN is not recognized. To dial-in during the scheduled meeting time, you can try any of the steps below:

  • Enter the phone number that’s in the Google Calendar event or meeting invitation.
Then, enter the PIN and #.
  • Or, from the Meet or Calendar app, tap the phone number.
    The PIN is automatically entered.

With the steps outlined above, you can join a Google Meet video meeting with your Android device without issues. However, if you experience one, you can check Google Meet troubleshoot tips.
