The virtual service kicked off at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Central time at Joel’s Lakewood Church in Houston.
While Joel preached to an empty congregation, it is reported that he’s enlisted the help of Singer Mariah Carey and movie boss, Tyler Perry.
As TMZ reported, Mariah reached out to Joel about a special tribute to medical professionals frontline battle against COVID-19. She’ll be singing her song “Hero” via webcam as tribute to health-workers.
Tyler Perry will be sharing inspirational message during the service as well.

Kanye West and his choir team were also billed to make a live appearance at the virtual service but the plan was cancelled.
The Yeezy boss while preparing the songs, took into consideration the logistics behind having 100 person choir. Even with face mask, it would truncate social distancing hence his decision to pull out.
Speaking on preaching to an empty church Osteen said
“It’s really odd, I’ve never done it in 20 years, so I’m here now looking at it, you just have to imagine people are there,” Osteen said. “Part of the message is going to be in these difficult times to know that God is still directing our steps, He has us in the palm of His hand, it’s not a surprise to Him. We will talk about the resurrection of the savior as well, but I think part of it will always tie into choosing faith over fear”
Joel Osteen since the pandemic has been sharing his messages virtually to keep the flock encouraged during these difficult times.
