Wearing Of Face Masks Will Be Compulsory In Southwest States From 24th April

The Governors in the Southwest States have resolved that the wearing of face masks would become compulsory from Friday, 24th April 2020.

 

Governors of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo was present at the virtual meeting.

 

They agreed in a statement signed by the Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

 

The governors agreed that entry points of the six states should be closed to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

They also agreed that traders must endeavour to wear nose masks while outside to minimize the spread of the deadly virus.

 

Last week, The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu advised Nigerians to go for improvised face masks due to a shortage of medical masks globally.

 

He also stated that these improvised masks can be used as long as they are washed properly.

 

The NCDC boss also added that improper disposal of medical masks can increase the risk of contracting COVID-19.

 

As of today, there are 627 confirmed cases in Nigeria, 170 discharged patients with 21 deaths.

 

Lagos State takes the lead with 376 confirmed cases, with FCT growing rapidly with 88 confirmed cases.

 

Lagosians are stilling reeling from the shock of how quickly the number of cases is increasing in the state despite the Lockdown.

 

Already, people are calling for strict compliance of the stay at a home policy to flatten the curve and curb the spread of the virus.
